THE COLORS OF JUNEAU
Inspired by Juneau’s natural beauty, artist Christine Carpenter spent two years creating a unique library of paints, papers, and inks—each made from materials foraged from the land itself. This exhibit merged botanical art with an educational journey, inviting viewers to see not only the finished pieces but also the intricate processes behind their creation. Christine’s artwork not only represents Juneau’s natural beauty but is, in essence, crafted by Juneau itself.
For Christine, art is deeply rooted in process—she believes that the real value in art lies in the act of creating.
As Christine dug her hands into the soil, extracted color from flowers, and mulled pigments into paint, she has woven her creative practice with the essence of place.
“The Colors of Juneau” delves into themes of sustainability, connection, and impermanence. Using natural materials that may not have the longevity of traditional media, this exhibit challenges our notions of quality, exploring the potential of clean, locally sourced, and ecologically responsible art materials.
