Christine Carpenter is a watercolorist and multi-media artist and designer living on Lingít Aaní (Juneau, Alaska), the ancestral homelands of the Tlingit people. Christine sees her multidisciplinary practice as a vital connection point between the community, our environment, and her creative spirit.

Christine uses place as a starting point, venturing into the physical and emotional landscapes that define us. Central to this exploration is her commitment to handmade botanical and earth inks and pigments, each meticulously crafted from materials she forages directly from the land. This visceral connection to the earth ensures her art isn’t just a reflection of nature’s beauty, but rather, a collaboration with it—crafted by the earth itself.

For Christine, the process of making is paramount. The deepest value in art isn’t solely in the finished piece, but in the journey of its creation. By transforming natural elements into color, Christine aims to illuminate how we can cultivate stronger, more intimate ties to our surroundings through dedicated exploration, historical understanding, and the powerful act of artistic expression.
