Making Paint from Food, In-Person Workshop

$100.00

TWO DATES!

Wednesday, December 10 from 6-9pm
& Sunday, December 14 from 1-4pm

Location: Liaise Studio, located in the Senate Mall (175 S Franklin Street, Floor 1 1/2)

Have you ever wondered if you could turn kitchen waste into art supplies? Join me for a unique, hands-on workshop where you'll learn the age-old alchemical process of making lake pigments and transforming them into vibrant, homemade watercolor paints.

In this 3-hour class, we'll dive into the world of natural color found in everyday food scraps. You'll be amazed at the beautiful colors hiding in red cabbage, avocado pits, and onion skins.

What You'll Do:

  • Learn the fundamentals of extracting natural dyes from common food scraps.

  • Discover the magic of "laking"—a historic technique that turns a liquid dye into a solid, usable pigment.

  • Formulate your own watercolors using a natural binder and the pigments you created.

  • Take home your handmade paints, ready to use for your next creative project.

This workshop is perfect for artists, crafters, and anyone curious about sustainable and natural living, but it is recommended that participants be ages 13 and over. All materials and tools will be provided. Just bring your creativity and a willingness to see food scraps in a whole new light!

Class size is limited to 6 participants to ensure a personalized and engaging experience.
